My Story
Alvin (Grade 12, HKIS):
Alvin Liu is currently a senior at Hong Kong International School. Growing up, sports had always been a big influence on Alvin’s life. He first started participating in organized sports at age 5, and since then he has been consistently involved in sports. Alvin has represented HKIS in swimming and cross country throughout high school. Alvin’s passion for sports led him to become motivated to become a bigger contributor within the athletics community, and as the pandemic hit, he saw an opportunity to help sports organizations, coaches, and others by establishing the Save Our Sports fundraiser in order to help support the local sports community.
Lucius (Grade 10, Kellet):
Lucius is currently in year 11 at Kellett School, and plays Football and Rugby in both school and at club level. He has been playing football and rugby at a high level in Hong Kong for a number of years, representing the Hong Kong Football club in both sports. Sports has been a big part of Lucius’ life growing up, and he wants to support this sporting community amidst the everlasting effects of the pandemic. Outside of class, Lucius also is an advocate for men’s health through a school club, raising awareness of mental health and prostate cancer awareness.

Campaign Description
We are looking to raise awareness for these coaches by encouraging others to walk 10,500 steps or to donate 105 HKD, to signify the 10,500 coaches who sought relief from the government. Our goal is to raise 10,500 HKD which will go to supporting the hard working coaches who faced extremely difficult circumstances during the coronavirus pandemic.
Over the course of the pandemic, countless people have been affected, including the many sports coaches around the world who found themselves out of work, due to the worldwide halt of sports. In Hong Kong alone 10,500 coaches sought relief from the government, receiving a 7,500 HKD subsidy each. 67% of the coaches who made their living on sports lost their jobs during the pandemic, which is really quite sad to see, as they are the backbone of our sporting community. Our goal is to support them as we come out of the devastating pandemic and return to normal life.
